We are pleased to present the first number of ACURILEANA, the official electronic journal of the Association of University, Research and Institutional Libraries in the Caribbean (ACURIL). The publication has the dual purpose to present, in the first place, a selection of the documentation emanating from the ACURIL annual conferences; and, second, to provide the necessary space not only to publish refereed papers in the information field within the region, but also other writings that will appear in relation to projects, best practices, and trends in the field.
ACURILEANA, co-sponsored by the Office of Information Systems of the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, will be issued bi-annually, two numbers each year.
In this issue, we have a selection of the documents presented at the XXXIII ACURIL Conference, held June 1-6, 2003, at the Intercontinental Resort & Casino San Juan, in Puerto Rico: presentations by keynote speakers, special invited presentations, project demonstrations, and information regarding poster sessions.
We initiate this effort to disseminate professional information which, although modest, may develop and strengthen in the way, aiming to benefit all those interested in the information field in the region.
